GENERAL FAULTS
Over 30 years’ experience solely on Polar and Stahl products RED engineering is a friend to the industry.
Polar guillotines
All ED XT and N range of machines have the same faults as the mechanics have not changed in over 50 years and the parts are all similar so this is a generalisation.
The errors and breakdowns you can expect are varied from electrical to mechanical
Broken shear bolt – remedy wind knife to top dead centre using gearbox handles and the machine operators manual if required then replace the shearbolt. The 115 and 137 are the same part numbers but 92 and 78 have their own number
Fault- generally blunt knife, knife hitting something other than paper or over time it has gradually become loose or the knife has extended either from the previous suggestion or after a knife change.
Oil leak – this will be on the right-hand side of the machine and it will be the pump seals. If the shaft is worn, then the seals will not cure the fault. Engineer required to asses and cure. No removal of guarding is required by customer just leave a pile of rags on spillage and call us.
Cutting issues -generally a blunt blade or loss of hydraulic pressure. Fit a new blade and monitor. if problem persists call us and inform. No one wants to lose production time but we can work and adjust in minimum time making quality production a number one priority.
Noise from gearbox – this is never good and will probably be bearings. Once a bearing starts to decline then it does so in an exponential fashion. The machine will run and no requirement to remove guards but call us to arrange a visit.
Warning knife afterrun/ overrun – Fault generally a oil leak on gearbox failing that a circuit board. Either way engineer required.
All the above will be noted in a safety inspection and cured following a service
Safety checks carried out on a 6 monthly basis and serviced every second visit
Carbon brushes available for the polar 78 on request

Damage to infeed vacuum belt – This will need replacing we Carry 2 types of stock. 1 the standard Heidelberg steel enforced and 2 Kevlar enforced toothed belt. Both parts can be fit within a few hours without issues.
Red x (cross) on rollers. Always perform a reference. If just 1 roller issue then roller motor at fault. If more than 1 this could be a circuit board issue. If all rollers have a cross this could be a very big issue. Not uncommon but very problematic.
Rollers and motors supplied and exchanged for any worn damaged rollers, also bearings provided Buckle plates have red x (cross) – 3 items in this equation. Plate circuit board, motors and the cable. Check the cable including pins for damage. Connect and reference. Power machine down and reference again.
If no movement a circuit board may be required. If one side moves quicker than the other a new motor is required.

Main contactor – unfortunately this could be the main contactor but it is a generalised message for the machine meaning an issue somewhere. This could be any component or circuit board on the machine. Call me as soon as possible. A reboot may cure but at somepoint the machine will fail.
Inverter pile/ drive - A verity of faults cause this engineer required Machine not booting – good chance the main cable is damaged. Try using dummy plug to isolate issue. Engineer required.
TI52 TI55 folders – error 18
This is a big problem but quite easy to solve. Engineer required with parts
